“Therapists are never “done” with growth, they are simply people who should be dedicated to learning as much about themselves and others as they possibly can. The best therapists are fully human and engage in the struggles of life. Our own failures help us to remain open to the struggles of others; our personal victories give us the optimism and courage to inspire those struggling with their lives.”
— Louis Cozolino, The Making of a Therapist
About Karen
Background
I knew from an early age that I wanted to work with people. When I discovered there was a whole field devoted to understanding the human psyche, it settled the ‘what do you want to be when you grow up’ question. I became a Clinical Psychologist.
In the last thirty-odd years, I have run my own practice, part-time at first, switching to full time private practice back in 2001. I have worked with all kinds of people from every walk of life, bringing all kinds of problems, major and transient. I have worked in public settings, in a prison facility, Community & Family Services, with street kids, in sexual health clinics, in psychiatric outpatient clinic and university settings. I’ve taken a spell or two in the ‘patient’ chair as well, including a required training analysis, twice a week for the duration of a 4-year post graduate training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
